Great Gatsby SOAPST

The speaker of the novel is Nick Carraway. He implies himself as the author of the book. He graduated from New Haven then went to the army. He moved to New York to engage in the bond business and also to find excitement. He moved to New York in the spring and lives in a moderate house, next to Gatsby's huge mansion. Nick is not judgmental and tells us that his father raised him correctly even though he had so many privileges and opportunities in his life. He does not care about money, he just wants to be self dependent, unlike the others who inherit money and do not do anything independently. He wants to be a well educated man, by telling us about the books he hopes to read.
The novel takes place in the summer of 1922. It ranges from Long Island and New York City. Nick and Gatsby live in the West Egg, this is where the wealthy people live, by making their own money. Nick's cousin Daisy along with Tom, lives in East Egg, where the wealthier people live. They inherited the family's richness and just enjoy it. So far the subject of the novel is love, party life, and wealth. Nick describes all the commotion around him caused by wealth and how people spend it differently partying. He also describes different loves, such as that of Daisy and Tom, him and Jordan, and of course Gatsby and Daisy. Everything is rather confusing at this point, but hopefully we will soon understand small details.
