"The Raven"

     Edgar Allen Poe's poem "The Raven" is an example of gothic literature. The story is set in a bleak and remote place. It takes place in December, on a cold night. There are numerous examples of violence incidents throughout the poem. Even though the reader does not know how Lenore's loss occurred, it can foreshadow that it was done violently. The author uses an incredible diction to emphasize on the scary and dark parts of the poem. The narrator is having physical and psychological torments. He lost Lenore and probably misses her abundantly and he can not deal with the idea that a raven can speak. There is also a supernatural aspect of the poem. The rooms gets stuffy and the narrator thinks there is someone else in the room. The fact that the raven can speak is also supernatural.
